The College of Architecture at Texas Tech University is under new administration and in the process of forming a renewed vision. The College has just received an eight-year accreditation from the NAAB and expects to add a significant number of new faculty in the immediate future, including a faculty for Design, and for Design and Health.
Texas Tech is located in the unique cultural and physical landscape of the American Southwest. In addition to the program in Lubbock, the College has centers in Houston and El Paso and is growing a presence in Marfa. It also conducts a robust study abroad program in several countries including Korea, Germany, Chile, and at the Texas Tech University facility in Seville, Spain. Recently Texas Tech University surpassed the Hispanic student population threshold necessary for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
The University enrolls more than 30,000 students, more than 500 of whom chose architecture as their major. The College of Architecture graduates students through the B.S. Architecture, professional M. Architecture, M.S. Architecture, and an interdisciplinary PhD in LandUse Planning, Management, and Design (LPMD). Specializations in M.S. are offered in Digital Design & Fabrication, Urban & Community Design, and Design & Health. Moreover, Graduate Certificates in Digital Design and Fabrication, Health Care Facilities Design, Health and Wellness Design, and Urban and Community Design are also offered.
The college has been expanding its facilities and has opened a 1.2-million-dollar interdisciplinary fabrication space to its shop facilities. The shops are currently equipped with: two CNC machines, three Laser cutters, six 3D printers, two large format powder-based 3D printers, one ABS machine and a 6-axis Fanuc Robotic Arm. The model shop has a desktop-scale CNC wire bending machine, a 4’x4’ Industrial scale vacuum former, and a KNK Maxx Blade Cutter. We are acquiring three large format laser cutters and a 6-axis KUKA robot arm in Spring 2018.
