The School of Architecture (SoA) provides deep immersion in the discipline of architecture, intensified by the broader Carnegie Mellon culture of interdisciplinary innovation and creative inquiry at the intersection of art and technology. Our undergraduate and graduate degree programs prepare students to be discipline-defining design thinkers and practitioners in diverse global contexts. This dynamic architectural education is enhanced by the SoA’s position within one of the world’s leading research and entrepreneurship institutions, and by the fundamental premise that architectural excellence demands both rigorous training in fundamentals and the development of unique specializations.

The SoA Head will articulate a strong intellectual vision of the discipline and its future, including the role of architecture in confronting social, technological, and environmental change. This vision will be outward looking and forward thinking while collaboratively building upon the SoA’s existing scholarly and educational ecosystem that values multiple perspectives and practices.

The Head will demonstrate an integrative understanding of architecture as a field built upon the interrelated domains of education, professional practice, industry, research, and scholarship.

The Head’s leadership will include:

– mentoring and contributing to a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
– outreach to alumni, the larger university community, and colleagues in the architecture and allied building and technology professions;
– participatory problem solving and creative management;
– cultivating new donors and financial resources;
– featuredand a high level of dedication and passion for architecture.
