1. Assistant Teaching Professor, Design and Building Systems

Position Description
The Department of Architecture in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure earning Assistant Teaching Professor in design, focusing on instruction in building systems and structural assemblies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Primary teaching responsibilities include design studio and required building systems courses in the Master of Architecture program. The assignment begins in August 2024.

Qualifications
We invite applicants with an advanced professional degree in architecture, engineering, or a closely related field and previous graduate teaching experience.

Minimum academic requirements for the position: The Master of Architecture, the Master of Science in Engineering, or the equivalent international degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related field.

2. Assistant Professor, Architecture (History + Theory)

Position Description
The Department of Architecture in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level starting Fall semester of 2024. The program is particularly interested in candidates with research experience, a successful record of scholarship, and a humanities-based approach to the built environment, settlements, and/or civilization. The Department seeks individuals with a PhD/Doctoral degree in Architecture or an allied field who are committed to excellence in teaching. Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in history/theory, seminars, and design studios, if appropriate, as well as participation in design reviews. The successful candidate may participate in the Doctorate of Design program and teach and advise students in their area of expertise.
The Department of Architecture has integrated issues of environmental and social justice into all aspects of the curriculum. This position offers an opportunity to rethink the content and format of the current three-semester architectural history survey with considerations of how design engages the natural environment and all peoples, inclusive of ethnicity, economic standing, gender, and religion. Applications are encouraged from candidates with expertise in both pre and post 20th-century architectural history and theory.
In addition, the Department encourages collaboration and interdisciplinary initiatives with the Departments of Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture + Environmental Urban Design. The Department of Architecture also enjoys close ties with the FIU Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab, a synergistic hub for community engagement in the humanities; and with the FIU Institute of Environment, a comprehensive solutions center dedicated to combating environmental crises. Both offer opportunities for collaborative, grant-based research.
