Job Description:

The Department of Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the open rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with an expertise in Architecture, Urbanism, and Theory. The successful candidate will support the department through teaching and research that consolidates and expands upon that of the internationally recognized and widely published faculty hosted in the department.

Research and scholarship of applicants should engage with the interface between design, economy, environment and the political.  Areas of specific expertise might include: architectural and urban responses to climate crisis; critical and historical perspectives on ornament and the architectural surface; political and/or feminist geographies of the city; architecture, infrastructure and big data; relations between landscape, territory and architecture; intersections of aesthetic, political and cognitive theory. The Department seeks an individual committed to advancing research, practice and pedagogy in such areas of expertise. The position will require applicants to maintain active scholarship consisting of peer-reviewed research, awards recognition, and externally funded research grants as appropriate to their field.

The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit a well-articulated and critical design pedagogy and teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including design studio, lecture and seminar-based courses in their area of research expertise.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should hold a terminal degree at a Masters or PhD level, or its equivalent, in Architecture or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant Architecture design experience.

Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate students at the university level.

The Department of Architecture is home to over 400 students and approximately 36 faculty offering two accredited degrees, a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture, and a post-professional research degree: Master of Science in Architecture. The Department is home is housed within the College of Design alongside the Departments of Landscape Architecture, Community and Regional Planning, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, and Arts & Visual Culture, making it one of the most comprehensive design colleges in the country.
