The School of Architecture & Design at the University of Kansas invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture with an emphasis on Integrated Design beginning in the fall of 2023. The Architecture Department faculty’s core purpose is to prepare new practitioners in the design of the built environment and for the path to architectural licensure. It seeks ways by which humanity can inhabit this planet in a sustainably healthy way. It does so primarily through its NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) program and its soon-to-be accredited Interior Architecture program.
This position’s teaching responsibilities will focus on studio instruction in the advanced integrated design studios in the accredited Master of Architecture curriculum. The fourth-year integrated design studios satisfy the primary NAAB performance criteria in the areas of design synthesis and building integration with a concentration on coordination, building technical knowledge, systems integration, human health, safety and welfare, and professional practice. The successful candidate for this position is expected to have significant professional and/or research experience in advanced design technologies, building envelope systems, methods of representation, and studio instruction. The candidate is also expected to possess skills and experience in architectural design focused on sustainability, urban design, or digital fabrication techniques. The faculty is committed to excellence in applying our knowledge and experience to educate the next generation of architects. The Department seeks candidates who can contribute to its knowledge and teaching as described above.
