Opportunity: The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University is seeking highly motivated candidates for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Architecture program with a preferred focus on design + environmental/ecological systems. Candidates should possess an active research agenda highlighted by peer recognition and demonstrable capacity for design studio instruction. In addition to studio teaching, the successful candidate will offer undergraduate and graduate coursework, and is expected to conduct research in their area of expertise.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold at minimum, an accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree or its equivalent. They should also have a record of teaching; peer-recognized scholarly activity and evidence of participation in, or commitment to cross-disciplinary endeavors. A record of acquiring grant-supported research and/or professional experience will be advantageous.
The Architecture Program at Kent State University is a growing enterprise – with particular emphasis on growing the Master of Urban Design and Master of Landscape Architecture, among others. Resources include a new state of the art Fabrication Lab and other digital design assets, unique international study opportunities; a progressive extra-curricular lecture and exhibition series, and campus partnerships with other units including the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Aeronautics and Engineering, and the highly regarded School of Art, The Fashion School, School of Visual Communication Design, and Liquid Crystal Institute.
The CAED is key in the University’s growing emphasis on Design Innovation. Its 32 full-time faculty and administrators and over 1000 undergraduate and graduate students now occupy three exciting locations: the spectacular new 107,000 sq. ft. Center for Architecture and Environmental Design designed by Weiss/Manfredi on the edge of downtown Kent; the recently renovated Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative in Playhouse Square; and the Palazzo Vettori in the historic center of Florence, Italy.
Located midway between New York and Chicago in the Cleveland/Akron metro area, Kent State University is a ranked public research university with high-research activity in the heart of a burgeoning cultural and industrial region that is home to some of the world’s finest art museums, parks, universities, restaurants, theaters, music venues, and independent cinemas. Facilities available for research, collaboration, and teaching include a new lighting laboratory facility, a digital/non-digital fabrication facility (FabLab) that includes robotic arms, 3-D printing, laser cutting, environmental testing, and a full construction laboratory.

Application Process: The position is a nine-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary is competitive and negotiable. The anticipated starting date is August, 2018.
