Less than two months away – we hope that you can join this year’s Reynolds Symposium in Portland at the White Stag Building, October 18-20, 2019, focusing on architectural education and the urgency of schools to address the multiple challenges facing our current environment.

The morning begins with Keynote: Redefining Design Excellence for a Climate Positive World
Marsha Maytum, FAIA and Bill Leddy, FAIA, Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects (LSMA)
Parallel paper/poster sessions from faculty, practitioners, content experts, and students from 21 universities and 4 countries will present their inspiring, reflective, and effective lessons to shift the process from creating fossil-fuel-based communities, toward building environments that are healthy, resilient, and carbon-emissions free. (Authors/titles will be posted soon)
The end of the symposium with an In-Practice Panel: How Did You Get There? This panel will showcase the Oregon Zoo Education Center, 2019 AIA COTE© Top Ten Award project, with panelists from the design team OPSIS Architecture Partner-in-charge, Alec Holser, and Heather DeGrella, Senior Associate and other team members discussing their design approach and Top Ten measurable impacts.
Reception to follow, sponsored by the Society of Building Science Educators.

Behind-the-scenes tour will start promptly at 9:30 am. The Center earned 2019 AIA COTE Top Ten Award, LEED Platinum certification with 82 points, and a Portland AIA 2030 COTE award. Tour will be led by OPSIS Partner, Alec Holser and other OPSIS team members. Please sign up on Eventbrite for free tickets. Attendees that wish to visit the zoo following the tour will need to exit the Education Center (essentially leaving the zoo) and walk up the hill to the main entrance to buy zoo entry tickets.
