Professor of Design and Health Jenny Roe and Associate Professor Bev Wilson, both Urban and Environmental Planning faculty in the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia, were recently awarded one of four “Rapid Response” grants to study the impacts of COVID-19 on the environment.
In June 2020, UVA’s Environmental Resilience Institute supported four projects with grants up to $15,000 to help faculty, postdoctoral fellows and students work to investigate the pandemic’s immediate impacts on climate and land-use change, population growth and urbanization, and ecological and health risks. The goal of the grants are to allow researchers to generate preliminary results in order to help compete for targeted external funding or to help finance sustainability-related events. “Rapid Response” seed funds support the research infrastructure and activity support to develop new areas of discovery.
Jenny Roe and Bev Wilson’s award supports the development of their research, COVID-19 Related Changes in Mobility, Air Pollution and Human Behavior. Their collaborators are Sally Pusede, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, and Christopher Neale, Post-doctoral Fellow.
