The School of Architecture (SoA), in the College of Arts & Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, invites nominations and applications for the position of Director. This position is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding individual to provide visionary leadership for a dynamic School within North Carolina’s urban research university.

The Director of the SoA: 1) coordinates teaching and advising; 2) advances the School through admissions, recruitment, assessment, and accreditation; 3) manages the School’s financial and human resources including personnel review procedures; 4) works with professional organizations and state/regional agencies to advance the School of Architecture’s values of creative engagement, collaboration and professionalism. Outside the School of Architecture, the Director collaborates with peer Chairs and the Dean in development and research initiatives of the College and represents the School to professional organizations.

The ideal candidate will have an energetic and collaborative leadership style that inspires faculty, students, and staff to develop a shared vision for the future. Additionally, successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for the variety of approaches, perspectives, and specializations that comprise the discipline of architecture, and have had experience facilitating interdisciplinary work that transcends traditional boundaries. The SoA seeks candidates who are committed to the idea that interdisciplinarity is a critical approach needed to define and effectively address contemporary challenges related to cities and the built environment.

The School of Architecture offers a pre-professional undergraduate degree in architecture and an undergraduate minor in architectural history and criticism. Graduate programs include a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.), Master of Urban Design (MUD), Master of Science in Architecture (M.S. in Arch.), as well as dual-degree programs in Architecture + Urban Design and Architecture + Computer Science.

The minimum academic qualification is a Master’s degree in Architecture (Ph.D. or similar degree in Architecture preferred). Applicants must have a record of scholarly achievement in research and/or practice commensurate with an appointment as a tenured full professor in the SoA. Successful candidates will also have demonstrated a record of academic & professional leadership and administrative accomplishments and the ability to think systematically, act decisively, and influence others in their work.
